Formerly the Thatcher Ferry Bridge so named after the ferry that thread the waters below long before there was an actual bridge.

A well fought declaration by the Panamanian Government to change the name finally came to term and read, “The bridge over the Panama Canal shall bear the name Bridge Of The Americas” 1962-present.  This bridge is part of the Pan- American Highway connecting Panama to North America.
