Antioquia:

Antioquia is situated in the northwestern part of Colombia and is known for its beautiful array of mountains, valleys and rivers. Antioquia is home to the city of Medellín, as well as many picturesque towns and villages. The region is famous for its coffee plantations, beautiful colonial architecture and El Penol; a small town with a big story.

We journeyed to Guatape -El Penol via a car hire service operator who was kind enough to advise us to spend at least one night in the area. we ended up spending four glorious days and had an amazing time. Attached are a few stories of the various attractions and history of the area as well as family friendly things to do and places to see in this region of Antioquia.

Our advise: There are numerous tours from Medellin to Guatape but our advise is to at least book an overnight stay. Guatape is a refreshing getaway from the city of Medellin and once you are there, you will want to see more. There is a little something in Guatape for the entire family.

Our favorite place to stay when in Guatape is Hotel Los Recuerdos which is located on the banks of the reservoir with excellent views of El Penol De Guatape.

Medellin or the land of eternal springs as it is referred is a lively city. Known for its warm hospitality, rich culture and stunning landscapes. During our time in Medellin, we enjoyed our base at the Four Points Sheraton, a comfortable family-friendly hotel known for its excellent service and convenient amenities. The hotel provides a relaxing retreat after a day of exploring and sightseeing in the city.

A wide variety of shopping, dining and entertainment options are walking distance away and deem to be enjoyable for the whole family.
