An Exhilarating Journey On The Whoosh Train

This past weekend, I embarked on an exhilarating journey from Jakarta to Bandung aboard the Whoosh Train, experiencing both the luxury of first class and the comfort of coach on my return. It was a memorable adventure, filled with scenic views, seamless service and a touch of indulgence.

First Class Experience: The Epitome of Comfort

Our journey began at the bustling Halim Station. Being first class ticket holders, we bypassed the regular lineup and were directed to the modest yet inviting first class lounge. The lounge, though humble, offered a welcome respite from the Sunday crowds. It featured a coffee station, a small selection of pastries, water and boxed juice, along with comfortable seating that set the tone for the relaxing journey ahead.

As we boarded the sleek, modern train, excitement buzzed in the air. The Whoosh Train didn’t disappoint. At times cruising at a maximum speed of 348 km/h, the journey to Bandung was a breathtaking blur of Indonesia’s picturesque countryside. The rolling hills, lush greenery and serene farmlands whizzed by, creating a mesmerizing panorama.

Luxury at an Accessible Price

At 60 AUD, the first class ticket was a worthy investment for the comfort and convenience it offered. For those looking for a slightly more economical yet still luxurious option, business class tickets are available for about 47 AUD. Each ticket class promises a unique experience, tailored to different preferences and budgets.

Returning in Coach: Comfort and Affordability

On our return trip, I opted for the coach service, which was a pleasant surprise. Priced at just 28 AUD, the coach seats were akin to economy class on a plane—comfortable and spacious enough for a short journey. Despite the more economical setting, the service remained impeccable and the scenic views continued to enchant.

The journey, lasting well under an hour each way, was smooth and efficient, making it a perfect weekend escape. The Whoosh high-speed train is the first of its kind in Indonesia, showcasing modern engineering, seamlessly blending speed, comfort and convenience.

Final Thoughts: A Journey to Remember

Having experienced both the luxury of first class and the comfort of coach, I can confidently say that the Whoosh Train caters to a wide range of travelers. While the first class journey was a delightful treat, I found the coach service to be equally satisfying for future travels.

More About The Jakarta -Bandung Highspeed Rail.

The Whoosh Train, is part of the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway. It is the first high-speed rail in Southeast Asia. Learn more about this impressive project by PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC):

Fastest in Southeast Asia: The Whoosh Train, also known as KCJB, is currently the fastest train in Southeast Asia, capable of reaching speeds up to 420 km/h during tests, although it operates at a maximum speed of 350 km/h in commercial service.

Joint Venture: The project is a joint venture between an Indonesian consortium and China Railway International, with a 60-40 ownership split. This collaboration aims to foster technology transfer and local manufacturing capabilities.

Environmental Commitment: KCJB is committed to sustainability by using electric energy from non-fossil renewable sources. This initiative is part of Indonesia’s broader efforts to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and support sustainable development.

Connectivity Enhancements: The high-speed rail network will integrate with various transportation modes, including the Jabodebek LRT, Bandung Raya Commuter Line, and Bus Rapid Transit systems. This integration aims to improve urban mobility and accessibility for the Greater Jakarta and Bandung regions.

Economic and Tourism Impact: The reduction in travel time between Jakarta and Bandung is expected to boost tourism and economic activities by making the two cities more accessible. The high-speed rail is anticipated to enhance connectivity and attract more visitors to both cities.

While the Whoosh Train is a significant milestone for Indonesia and Southeast Asia, it is not the only high-speed rail project in the region. Other countries, such as Thailand and Vietnam, are also developing high-speed rail projects, but the Whoosh Train remains the first to become operational in Southeast Asia.
